 Organizing Instruction of Diverse Students

If I could reflect on one strategy/learning technique from this week it would be Backward design. For way too long, the only thing teachers focused on was simply just teaching. Backward design starts with the end goal, meaning the activity and or project for the lesson is the starting point. The theory is left for later and the assignment takes centre stage. This method focuses on student learning outcomes for that unit with the aim of ensuring academic success.

By focusing on the activities, educators can meet the needs of learners by introducing various methods of planning and designing.

It is important to consider that everyone is given an equal opportunity to learn. Reflecting on the lesson, I am more aware of the fact that teachers and the methods they use to educate their learners play a significant role in student academic accomplishments. Backward design, whereby educators promote activity based content in a group setting concept could work well in an educational setting.

Educators can promote the content grounded in the activities where students with different academic abilities can be paired to encourage diversity.
Reflecting on the concept of Content and Grouping and how the strategy of Backward design could relate to these concepts, one can imagine that diverse students’ academic achievements might improve.
