Curriculum and Technology

Teachers at our college are encouraged to use technology in their classrooms. Each teacher has a laptop and a projector available as and when they need it for their student class lessons.

At times, the teachers become stressed due to their workload and just focus on getting through the syllabus content without using any of the technology available to them. We offer teacher development opportunities to aid them in their day to day teachings using technology, to make it easier for them to understand how the use of technology can be used to their advantage.

These ideas are also supported by Delaney, M., Delaney, M., & Cdw. (2011, November 01) that state that teachers are given the training, however, within a day or two, they fall back onto their old teaching habits, excluding the technology ideas they were given. Furhter stating that the best way for improving technology integration was to improve teachers knowledge about these advances available to them.

Students at our college seem to be technologically advanced comparative to their teachers. They all own laptops and have access to the internet via fibre or wifi. They are required to write their online tests on their laptops at the end of each term.

Some of our teachers find technology scary, especially those at the juniors side, they are not comfortable using them.

There seems to be a driving force behind technology and education. Lately, there seem to be a wide range of applications out there to aid teacher and student learning.  Our students find the math applications very helpful in explaining concepts to them they struggled with before.

This means they are becoming more active learners in their own educational needs.
