Barriers to learning
Some of the barriers our teachers tend to neglect are cognitive barriers and student attitudes  – the belief about their learning abilities, especially in science and mathematics. Many students have a fear for math. The subject may seem incomprehensible to some, sitting through confusing lessons, struggling to understand the homework and taking tests that make no sense. Students at times fail to see how math can be applied to real life future situations, such as balancing a household budget.

They see math as cryptic, complex and only understood if you are a mastermind. Many students suffer from math anxiety due to this attitude. My belief is that math anxiety is an emotional issue and it is this emotional response that prevents them from working through math problems logically.

We aim to teach them that there is no one way to solve a math problem and that going back to basics is key to understanding it.

Many teachers might overlook this barrier in their classroom, thinking math attitude only pertains to math class, however, this attitude can be applied to other subjects too.
